WORKSHOPS

In the past 10 years, Meeri Koutaniemi has organized multiple different workshops all around the world. In the core of the workshops has been the basics of photojournalism, questions of ethics and finding the various ways to enhance one's self-expression.

Workshops concentrate mostly on youths social needs and wishes. In the course of the workshop, conversations are held where the students can tell about their own life experiences. For example, in Nepal, the ex-kamalari slaves shared their stories and discussed their traumatic pasts. Thru the group discussions, they could share their own experiences and get support from each other. The workshop included also other forms of self-expression, like dance and theatre.

Koutaniemi has been part in organizing training sessions in Georgia for young journalists getting ready to work in conflict zones.

Koutaniemi has been a regular visiting teacher in various universities and colleges.
